INPI – Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office

Created in 1970, INPI is subordinated to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.

Its main purpose, according to Law 9,279/96 (Industrial Property Law), is to nationally execute the rules regulating Industrial Property, bearing in mind their social, economic, judicial and technical purpose. It is also its attribution to issue opinions on the convenience of signature, ratification and termination of conventions, treatments, contracts and agreements on industrial property.

Besides the attributions known as the responsible organism to register and grant Trademarks and Patents, there are other services offered by the Institute, such as: Industrial Design Registration, Geographic Indication Registration, Computer Program Registration, Integrated Circuit Topography Registration, Registration of Technology Transference Agreements, Registration of Corporate Franchising Agreements and others.
